Space theme canvas + Tutorial

Hello crafty peeps,

kavitha here today.Hope you are enjoying the posts by our DT using the versatile Ice cubes, frosted powder and sparkling dust.Today i have a canvas to share made using ice cubes and frosted sugar powder.Oh boy i just love the texture they create, its just out of the world,so i decided to created a space theme canvas, hehe.
These powders are not just for decorating flowers or stamped images, the possibilities with these are endless in mixed media, hope you have checked out the art recipes by Bipasha ,mixing them with different paste and paints gives different textures and effect.I mixed the frosted sugar powder and ice cubes with light paste.

Here is some process pictures. After a coat of gesso to my canvas,i applied a very thick layer of light paste with knife, and sprinkled frosted sugar powder and ice cubes  while the paste is still wet.I applied the paste randomly,in different thickness to add some dimension.
I used dylusion sprays to color my canvas.

Finally i splattered lots of white paint to get the galaxy effect.

Finally decorated the canvas with some die cut and wooden embellishments.

More close ups...

Mixed media Tags with DMC Frosted Sugar Powder and Crystal Ice cubes

Hey my dear crafty people..

How are you all doing? I hope you are having crafty fun, well I am having it as Delhi is drizzling and so am I. Those who live in Delhi can very well relate with me as these rains seems like Godsend in June's warm weather.

Well with this rain...Ice prompts into my mind...
You can guess right!
I am talking about Crystal Ice cubes..Such a unique product with so much versatility. I am sure many of you must be thinking what Can b done with them. I so very well agree with you but DMC DTs are coming up with so beautiful and creative projects with it that I hope reading their blog will definitely resolve your problem.

And along with Crystal Ice cubes, I will be using Frosted Sugar powder in my project as well. I have made Mixed media tags and you will see how you can use Ice cubes and frosted sugar powder to create beautiful backgrounds.

So first let's see what I have created. There will be lot's of images so that you can see the closer look of the effect.

Isn't that gorgeous?
Now you see how beautifully the texture is coming out.

So gals, are you aware of Sand texture paste? I hope most of you are aware of it. I will show you how to create sand textured background in case you don't have texture paste.
I have a video tutorial for this project but due to some technical issue, couldn't post it. Will share it soon on the blog and DMC youtube channel.

Meanwhile let's start with the written procedure,

I have used Bob n Betty cuddling cuties collection, and pasted it to the chipboard tags.
Then I have mixed Frosted Sugar powder with modelling paste, which came up as a rough texture paste and made the background using Tim Holtz Stencils.

Then I put modelling paste on the edges of the tag just need to have control over your hands and then I pasted Crystal Ice cubes on to it. These Ice cubes sticks very well with the modelling paste so you can always mix them up in your mixed media projects.

I used Frosted sugar paste on the upper half of the stencil and applied Clear crackle texture paste on the left over part to give variation to the background.

Then I sprayed Comic shimmer mist-Teal Wash randomly on the tag and little bit of Dylusion Paint-Dirty Martini , sprayed some water to let the colors flow. Dry it with heat gun and you will start seeing the crackle effect on the background.

I put glossy accent at some parts of tag edge  and sprayed sparkling dust and Frosted sugar powder to give more shimmery effect. And then I did embellishment.

Now in the next Tag, I again took cuddling cuties collection paper from bob n betty as I loved the pastel color splash effect on the background.

I have taken the same paper scraps, distressed the edges and made backgrounds using stencils on it.
Then I layered them all..on the top of the main the main tag giving it more dimension. The different part of this tag is that I have used Distressed crackle-Shabby Shutter on the edges..I did it same way as i applied modeling paste on the edges in the previous tag. The difference is that here, I have used distressed crackle paint which gives a shabby distress edges  and sprinkle sparkling dust on it before it dried.

I have also used Mango Blush Cosmic shimmer mist. Do not spray directly to the base, I have sprinkle few droplets and move the flow it with water.

I used crystal ice cubes in the same way I used in the previous tags. Don't you think this just looks awesome?
I am loving the effect which came at last.

And similarly I did the last tag. The I have used Aqua Breeze Cosmic shimmer mist and Dusty attic acrylic paint-Cranberry in that and see how it came out.

I hope you liked my work and found inspiration in it. So If you are mixed media fan and looking for new ways to create background textures then go for these amazing products.

Mixed Media Art Recipes with DMC's Powders

Hello crafty peeps, how have you been?
Its mid of the month, and I am pretty sure you all are having a blast going through the inspiring posts on Frosted sugar powder, Crystal ice cubes, Sparkling dust from my fellow DT members. I am sharing my bit of inspiration today using these absolute favourites from the DMC product line.

Product brief -
Frosted sugar powder: These are grainy transparent powder which can be mixed with different other mediums and paints to create a more-natural subtle textures to our art background or grungy top-coats., or may be simply used to create a faux frosty look in our projects.
Crystal ice cubes: These are transparent mini-bead like grains of approx. size 2-3mm and perfect for adding strong textures. They can be mixed with different other mediums, paints, sprays .
Sparkling dust: They are the perfect touch of subtle shimmer that can transform any project into a glam doll within fraction of a second, be it on flowers, abstract textures, fancy arts, decors. They can be mixed with permanent colours in different shades to suit our crafting need.

I love creating natural textures in my art projects and couldn't resist using a combination of all these 3 ingredients in my creation.

I have created two Mixed media banners using Primarketing's (Donna Downey) large canvas banner as a base. I will share 5 ART RECIPES for using these 3 different mediums for adding textures and interests in your dimensional arts.

Mix all the above ingredients together to add beaded texture in specific areas of your mixed media project

ART RECIPE 2. (a)Glossy Accent + Frosted sugar powder
                             (b)Glossy Accent + Sparkling dust
Use technique (a) or (b) or both to add sparkle and glamour to your embellishments. I have used this technique on the flowers, chipboard frame and a dangling foam ball.

ART RECIPE 3. Patina Rust Effect (Surface : Metals & Chipboards)
Frosted Sugar Powder + Prima Chakboard Paint(Sea Breeze)+ Dylusions paint(Vibrant Torquoise) + alcohol Inks in latte, Expresso, Patina + Sparkling dust
At first, cover your metal/chipboard surface with undiluted chalkboard paint, adding frosted Sugar Powder randomly. Once semi-dry, add the dylusions paint with a dry brush, alcohol Inks in latte, Expresso, Patina with the tip nozzle and Sparkling dust with a dry palette knife to create a shaded effect.

ART RECIPE 4. Crystal Ice Cubes + Frosted Sugar Powder + Sparkling dust + Finnabair Rust Paste (Gold Rust) - Mixed

ART RECIPE 5.Texture transformation
Frosted Sugar Powder + Crystal Ice Cubes + Clear Crackle + Modelling paste

Sprays + Alcohol inks + Artisan Powder Coffee

I used all these 5 Art recipes and created these two banners:

Products used:

Sparkling dust
Frosted sugar powder
Crystal Ice Cube

If you take a closer look you may find a bunch of interesting findings on these banners - mixed with some textures and embellishments. I hope you will enjoy it - as much as I did creating it and maybe you will try some of the ideas shown in your own projects? I hope I was able to convince you that you can create absolutely anything using these texture ingredients - as long as you are able to stick it and paint it the sky is the limit!
Keep creating - no mater what happens, remember to "make good art" (as Neil Gaiman said).
(This also applies to me, of course!)

Sealing this post with warm hugs
